Surgery

About a week a half ago I had surgery. I had polyps in my nose and I had them removed. Polyps are fleshy teardrop shaped growths of inflamed tissue lining the nose (nasal mucosa) or sinuses. Here is an image of what they look like...the left side has the polyps.

The doctor said my polyps were a normal size, but that I had the most he had ever seen. yikes!!! The surgery was an in and out the same day surgery. I went in at 8:15 am and was home by 1:30 pm. Caleb took me in for the surgery. I had it done at Avenues Surgical Center with Dr. Joshua Bradley. He was recommended by my allergy doctor. While I was out of commission, my parents came up to watch Lily so Caleb could still go to work. It was soooo great to have them here (as always). They were so helpful and it was nice to not have to worry about taking care of Lily and dinners and the day to day stuff while I was recovering.

I have allergies and they aren't terrible, but with the polyps I was always congested and I could rarely smell anything. For the last couple years, I have known I had the polyps, but have been treating them with cycles of prednisone and nasal steroids to shrink them. I don't want to be on steroids forever so decided to get them removed. I have had this surgery before...about 10 years ago. I knew when I got the surgery previously that I would probably need to get it again...I just didn't know when. The polyps usually grow back.

As for now though....hopefully another 10 years....I can breath! I smelled my baby for the first time the other day and she smelled sooo good. I am so glad I had the surgery and hope it gives me relief for at least 10 more years.

YAY! You can smell things!!! Remember how I would always ask you if you could smell that (whatever "that" may be) at work and you would just give me that look... that "you're an idiot Tara, I can't smell anything" look. hahaha! Congratulations, glad it went well!
