basement flooding

Ahhhhh...yesterday a pipe burst in our basement and it got really wet. The toilet in the basement, if you don't make sure the handle pops up after you flush will sometimes run. So I heard water down there at about noon, but thought it was just the toilet. I was too lazy to go down and check the first time I heard it. Thought...it doesn't hurt for the water to run for a bit. So the next time I noticed the noise, I went downstairs to check it out. Sure enough there was about an inch of water standing on the floor of the bathroom. I tried to turn the water off, but wasn't sure I was in the right place to turn it off. I called Caleb and he had his friend Spencer come over to help turn the water off. He works close to our house. Caleb came home from work and we started sucking up water...waiting for the plumber to get there. The plumber said he has been dealing with a lot of broken pipes for the last couple days. He got it all fixed and not we have holes in our walls and wet carpet. We rented one of the big fans to air out the carpet. It's been on all night long and the carpet is still a bit damp. All in all...it could have been worse, but I was panicking at first. Not the thing we need while we are trying to sell our house :( Whoever buys the house will have a freshly fixed pipe and super clean carpets in basement.
