Caleb's surprise

For Caleb's Christmas present, I have been planning a surprise for him. He LOVES the 49ers and they are doing really well this season. A couple months ago, I decided I would get him a ticket to a 49ers game. He will be going to the 49ers/Steelers game in San Francisco. The game is just before Christmas, so I decided I would wait until the day we are going to the airport to tell him. I got his store covered and arranged flights and hotel. To tell him, I made a onesie for Lily. On the front it says, "Merry Christmas! Pack your bags. We are leaving for the airport in 1 hour." Then the back has a 49ers logo and it says "You are going to the 49ers game."

I tried to get his reaction on video, but the room was too dark. So here is a video of Lily wearing her shirt.

When he read the shirt....he got out of bed so fast. I haven't seen him move that quickly in the morning ever. I could hear him in the bathroom saying, "It's Monday Night Football...I am going to Monday night football. But it's Friday today. what?? what???" He was super stoked and had no idea we were planning the surprise.

His friend Darren that lives in SF, got a ticket for Caleb and him. He will go to the game with Darren. Lily and I are coming along for the trip too.

We are super excited about the trip...and excited to be somewhere a little warmer :)

Lily 7 months

Lily at 7 months:

-she is almost crawling. She gets up on her hands and knees and rocks back and forth. I have seen her take a couple little "steps", but she knows she is faster with the army crawl...so usually reverts to that.
-she is getting such a great personality. She is so happy just observing when we go out. I love it. She is an easy one to take places because she likes to look around...we are lucky there.
-she is 14.5 pounds
-she is starting to get attached to people she knows. She loves being with her mom and dad and is starting to notice is we step out of sight.
-she likes music
-she loves her tongue. she has discovered she has it and is always sticking it out.
-she knows when you are making a bottle and gets excited for it.
-no teeth yet :)
-she is babbling so much. She has so much to say...I wish I knew what she was thinking.

Paula in town

Paula came in to town for a couple days so we could work together. She had some meetings as well. We had such a great time. One night Jessica and I stayed over in her hotel room. We don't get to see her very often, but we are talking to her every day for work. When we get together...we are such great friends. we had a great time.

Festival of Trees

I went to the Festival of Trees with my mother in law & sister in laws. We go every year and have a great time. One of my favorite parts is the gingerbread houses.

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse

My nephew, Oliver, was in the play "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse". It was so fantastic and he did a great job. He had one of the main parts. We enjoyed the play so much.

It was based on the Children's book by Kevin Henkes

Thanksgiving

This year we spent Thanksgiving at Caleb's mom's house. We had a great time. It was a small group. Us, Corinne and Trevor's family. (Stacie, Kyree & Ali). It's always great to be with family.

6 months

Lily is 6 months old already. Here are some things about her at 6 months.

-weight: 13 lbs. 10 oz. (she is in the tenth percentile*)
-height: 26 inches (she is in the 75th percentile*)
-head: 25th percentile*
-She is army crawling all over the place and she is fast. Bear isn't used to this yet and he keeps getting his tail grabbed.

-she is laughing more and more.
-I think she is starting to get a bit of stranger danger. She is okay if she can still see someone she knows, but if she only sees the stranger she gets a little scared.
-she is eating solid foods a lot better. She opens her mouth wide and loves mealtime.
-she wants to sit up on her own, but can't quite get up there. She is getting stronger though and I think she will figure it out soon.
-I found a really nice little daycare for her in Layton here very close to our house. She starts next Tuesday and will go there 4 days a week. I am excited to have a stable daycare situation, but it will be sad dropping her off.

*I really think the percentile thing is bogus and babies are all going to grow and develop at their own rate, but I think it will be interesting to reference later in her life.

Halloween party at Grandma Cory's

Caleb's mom always does a little halloween party at her house. All of the adults choose a room and the kids go around trick or treating at the house. Caleb is always the scary one with a creepy mask and scares the kids. Our nephew Josh is just starting to talk a lot and he said to Caleb as he was leaving..."you scared me Uncle Caleb". Hopefully there are no nightmares. It's always a good time.

These kids are wiggly so I didn't get a very good picture, but here they are in their costumes.

Halloween costumes

Lily was a leopard & Bear was a bee. Here they are in their costumes.

and do you remember these. Caleb bought the set and we have been eating them at our house. I have to say Franken-Berry is my fave.

saturday with grandma & grandpa

my parents came to salt lake for the weekend. So we met up with them and my sisters. We went to lunch at Benihana (one of our faves). Lily loved watching the chef do the tricks at the table. Then we went out to ikea for some shopping and to the mall. It was fun to spend the day with them.

Oli & Henry wore their costumes. Oli was Link & Henry was the most adorable monster.

Monster show at Blonde Grizzly

We had our 2nd annual monster show just before Halloween at the gallery. We got some really great art in and this show is always one of my favorites that we do. The store was full all night long. We had a great turnout.

Wheeler Farm

We decided we needed to do something kind of fallish before it started to get really cold here. We went to Wheeler Farm. They allow dogs there so we decided to take Bear with us. It was fun to see the animals they have there. We went on a little tractor ride. (really little...it was pretty much the equivalent of driving around half a city block. I thought with such a big property the tractor ride would be pretty cool and we would get to see quite a bit...not the case) We also picked out pumpkins in their pumpkin patch. (which was about the equivalent of the tractor ride...really small) We had a great time. It was good to get out and do something as a family and we will always laugh about the $6 each we spent on the tractor ride and pumpkin patch. I am excited for Lily to get a little bigger and get excited about the animals. They had a really cool duck pond with lots of birds to feed too.

Lily loves her dad

Lily loves her dad so much. She will sit and cuddle with him in the chair while he watches TV. She gets the biggest smile on her face when he gets home from work and talks to her. It's so cute. I am excited to see how their relationship grows as she gets older.

Our Reality

So...my blog normally highlights the fun things we do and fun things I make etc. Which is all fine and good, but our day to day reality is not all making things and going fun places. I wanted to just kind of document our reality right now...the good and the bad.

-my house is not always clean. maybe 1 day every other week it gets a decent cleaning, but every other day there are piles of stuff on the kitchen counter and toys and blankets all over the living room floor. We also never make our bed....like hardly ever...maybe once a month.
-I do work from home, but I have a pretty full work schedule. I end up putting in about 30-50 hours a week...depending on the week and what deadlines we have. I love my job and am so grateful to have one, but it's definitely a full time job.
-I am not able to get all of my work hours in without help watching Lily. Currently, I take her to my sister-in-laws two days a week. Then I have a lady come to my house 1 day a week to watch her for 5 hours. then Mondays caleb has work off so he watches her on Mondays. This schedule has worked so far, but it's kind of crazy remembering where Illy will be when and I feel bad that she doesn't have a lot of consistency. I will be starting to take her to a daycare center in a couple weeks where she will go 4 days a week so I can get work done. I found that I am not the best multi-tasker and when I try to work and watch Lily neither of them are done well. If I can take her somewhere, then when I am able to be with her...I can be with her 100% and not have to worry about work.
-I don't made dinner very often. We end up eating out quite a bit (this is something that needs to happen less frequently. Some weeks are better than others) I like cooking, but just don't have a lot of time or energy for it. Grilled cheese sandwhiches for dinner is a pretty popular meal at our house.
-Caleb is so great with Lily and I am grateful he is so hands on with helping out with her. He is always willing to watch her when I need help. He also is good to get up with her in the middle of the night sometimes. We kind of trade off getting up with her.
-We love Bear oh so much, but he's verrrrry needy. He's a lot of fun to have around, but still figuring out his place now that we have Lily.
-My photo albums have not been updated in about 6 months. I normally like to stay on top of this so I don't get overwhelmed...I am to the overwhelmed point with my photo books. Hoping I can catch up over Christmas.
-We are loving having Lily and still trying to find a balance in our lives. I still like to have time for myself. I am a firm believer in always working on being happy with yourself. If you are happy with yourself and your place in life, then I think you are a happier person. I think it helps the people around you be happier as well. If I am unhappy with myself, I am grumpy to Caleb and not as productive at work. So I still have goals for myself and try to work on them in between working and taking care of Lily.
-Laundry!!! oh it's my nemesis. I hate laundry...mostly I hate folding laundry. So when the laundry gets done, it usually sits on the bed in the basement for a couple days at least before it gets put away. Sometimes it stays there until next laundry day.

I am so grateful for everything we have in life and anxious to see how our reality evolves through each stage of our lives.

Urban Flea Market

We took Lily out to the Flea market here in SLC. They just started doing it this year and it was a lot of fun. We found some fun items and will definitely go back last year. Here are a couple pictures of Lily at the Flea market.
